A commander with a spaceflight legacy
Nolan Stafford commands the mission to Tau Ceti f. His official background includes the first human landing on Mars and a central role in building Corinth’s space programme. This expedition is intended to be his final mission before retirement, making it both a professional responsibility and the culmination of a long career.
Bill Young and the next generation
Stafford and Bill Young flew to Mars together. Brianna Young, the Cassiopeia’s pilot, is Bill’s daughter, and Stafford promised his friend he would look after her. That history helps explain his role as her mentor. His stated commitment to the crew is background characterization, not proof that everyone survives a particular route.
